Welcome to the Mathematics Preparatory Course!

Hi! You will be starting a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field this fall? You can’t wait to get to know your university and your fellow students? You are looking for a gentle introduction to your program? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Organization

The Maths Prep Course will start September 9th, 2024, and end October 4th, 2024. Events will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The course will take place on campus at Saarland University. Online participation will not be possible. If you have trouble participating in the prep course because your visa starts later or because you cannot move in to your dormitory in time, please contact us at kontakt@vorkurs.cs.uni-saarland.de.

Registration

Registration is necessary to attend this precourse. The registration is open until September 5th, 2024.

Do I have to be enrolled at the university to register?

No, if you are not yet enrolled at Saarland University at the time of registration, this is not a problem. However, you should plan to start your studies in the winter semester at Saarland University.

Audience

You should participate in our prep course if you are starting, or have just started, your bachelor’s studies in one of the following fields:

• Computer Science / Informatik (including teacher studies)
• Cybersecurity / Cybersicherheit
• Wirtschaftsinformatik
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
• Medieninformatik
• Computerlinguistik
• Bioinformatik
• Eingebettete Systeme
• Mathematik und Informatik

If you plan on taking any modules in Computer Science during your studies, you are welcome to participate as well.

Costs

We have to charge a fee for printed materials in order to cover the costs of the prep course. Due to the voluntary commitment of many helpers and the support of the Freunde der Saarbrücker Informatik e.V., the Studierendenwerk Saarland e.V. and the Students' Representative Council, the cost contribution for the four weeks is limited to 20 €. You will find the payment details on your personal status page after registration.

In what language will the Prep Course be offered?

The Prep Course, like most courses in the computer science study programme, will be bilingual. Lectures and materials are in English. For other means, you can choose between English and German.

Content

During the prep course, we will cover the following topics:

• formal languages
• logic
• proofs
• sets and relations
• induction

Also, we will be offering some social activities where you can get to know your fellow students and your university.

Willkommen beim Mathe-Vorkurs!

Hallo! Du fängst im Herbst an, Informatik, Cybersicherheit, DSAI, Medieninformatik oder ein anderes informatiknahes Fach zu studieren? Du möchtest schon vor Beginn des eigentlichen Studiums die Universität und deine Mitstudierenden kennen lernen? Du suchst einen leichten Einstieg ins Studium? Dann bist du bei uns genau richtig!

Organisatorisches

Der Mathe-Vorkurs findet voraussichtlich vom 9. September 2024 bis zum 4. Oktober 2024 jeweils Montag bis Freitag von 9:00 Uhr bis 16:00 Uhr statt. Der Kurs findet in Präsenz auf dem Campus der Universität des Saarlandes statt. Eine Online-Teilnahme ist nicht möglich. Solltest du nicht teilnehmen können, weil dein Visum erst später gültig wird, oder weil du erst später ins Wohnheim einziehen kannst, kontaktiere uns bitte über kontakt@vorkurs.cs.uni-saarland.de.

Anmeldung

Eine Anmeldung ist erforderlich um teilzunehmen. Die Registrierung ist bis zum 5. September 2024 geöffnet.

Muss ich an der Uni eingeschrieben sein, um mich beim Vorkurs anzumelden?

Nein, wenn du zum Zeitpunkt der Anmeldung noch nicht an der Universität des Saarlandes eingeschrieben bist, ist das kein Problem. Du solltest jedoch planen, dein Studium im Wintersemester an der Universität des Saarlandes zu beginnen.

Zielgruppe

Du solltest den Vorkurs besuchen, wenn du dein (Bachelor-)Studium in einem der folgenden Studiengänge beginnen wirst oder gerade begonnen hast:

• Informatik (auch Lehramt)
• Cybersicherheit
• Wirtschaftsinformatik
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
• Medieninformatik
• Computerlinguistik
• Bioinformatik
• Eingebettete Systeme
• Mathematik und Informatik
• Computer Science (english)
• Cybersecurity (english)

Außerdem ist der Vorkurs für dich geeignet, wenn du vor hast, im Laufe deines Studiums Informatik-Module zu belegen.

Kostenbeitrag

Wir müssen einen Kostenbeitrag für Druckerzeugnisse erheben, um die Kosten für den Mathematik-Vorkurs decken zu können. Aufgrund des ehrenamtlichen Engagements vieler Helfer und Unterstützung durch die Freunde der Saarbrücker Informatik e.V., dem Studierendenwerk Saarland e.V. und der Fachschaft Informatik beschränkt sich der Kostenbeitrag für die vier Wochen auf 20​​ €. In welcher Sprache findet der Vorkurs statt?

Der Vorkurs wird, wie viele Veranstaltungen im Informatikstudiengang, zweisprachig sein. Vorlesungen und Materialien sind dabei nur auf Englisch verfügbar. Für andere Aspekte des Vorkurses (zum Beispiel Tutorien) kannst du zwischen Deutsch und Englisch wählen.

Inhalt

Im Vorkurs werden wir fachlich die folgenden Themen behandeln:

• Formale Sprachen
• Logik
• Beweisen
• Mengen und Relationen
• Induktion

Daneben werden wir verschiedene Freizeitaktivitäten organisieren, bei denen du das Studium, die Universität und deine zukünftigen Mitstudierenden kennen lernen kannst.
